The ‘Volgerlanden’ (Onder de Linden) is a new housing estate in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht. It offers sophisticated living in a green environment with lots of character. We designed a garden that perfectly matches the detached house, built in a contemporary country style. The plot is comfortable and intimate, as well as attractive and pragmatic. We took into account the couple’s functional demands – without compromising style.
Outdoor meets indoor | The Corten steel material, which is used on the window panels, is liberally repeated throughout the garden. From fencing for privacy and shelter, to panels that run over the floor right into the garden partition. The rusty metal makes a strong architectural statement. Its rich and earthy tones compliment the evergreen trees, which visually break the long continuous lines. We cleverly planted them to be viewed from inside the house.
Writing on the wall | The residents enjoy tranquillity and stunning views from the porch at the back of the house. Partitions in wood, stone and Corten steel at strategic locations lead the eye and create a sense of intimacy. The natural-stone wall defines the contemporary pond, with water pouring smoothly from stainless steel tubes. A wooden fence centrally located in the back of the garden demarcates the lawn, which is the children’s play area. Massive polyester planters are filled with low-growing ornamental grasses and little trees – a pleasing design contrast with the shiny white pots.
Lavish lounging | The lounge area in the back of the garden contains a wooden deck for lazing out in the sun, a whirlpool, a sundeck and a sauna – the perfect anti-stress program! Erik integrated some smart design features, including invisible outdoor speakers for perfect sound, a ‘window with a view’ in the sauna, and led lighting for an enchanting atmosphere.
